Prof. Pedro J. Torres made a 10-day research visit to the Mathematics Engineering Department of ITU. During this visit he gave a seminar with the title “The Inverse Problem for Periodic Travelling Waves of the Linear 1D Shallow-Water Equations”. Hosted by the department member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cihangir Özemir, this visit provided the continuation of a collaboration with Dr. Özemir and also opened future possible research opportunities for Dr. Özemir’s graduate advisees.

Prof. Pedro Torres is an internationally recognized researcher in applied mathematics, with various specializations including differential equations with periodic coefficients and periodic solutions, stability of differential equations and dynamical systems. He serves in editorial boards of distinguished journals, such as Qualitative Theory of Dynamical Systems.

Dr. Özemir visited Prof. Torres at the University of Granada in 2024 with a support provided by a BAP project. During this visit, together with Prof. Faruk Güngör who is an emeritus professor of ITU Mathematics Department, the trio started a new problem on algebraic properties and behavior of solutions of a shallow water PDE problem. The visit by Prof. Torres gave the opportunity to the team discuss the current situation of the work.

During this visit, Dr. Özemir’s graduate students found the chance to meet Prof. Torres, and he kindly invited them for research stays at his institute. This will be a great opportunity for future studies and TUBITAK based research projects with international collaborations.
