The article entitled “ Propagation of Lamb waves in an elastic layer with irregular surfaces” based on the studies conducted by Department of Mathematics members Prof. Dr. Semra Ahmetolan and Assist. Prof. Dr. Ayşe Peker was published in Wave Motion.

The article explores the issue of Lamb wave propagation in a layer consisting of a uniform, isotropic material with irregular free surfaces. The irregularities on these surfaces are assumed to change gradually along the direction of wave propagation. Using an asymptotic perturbation method, the researchers derive a distinct asymptotic solution for the amplitude function of Lamb waves. The dispersion relation, which depends on the phase velocity, wave number, and propagation direction, is also analyzed. The study investigates how irregularities in the boundary surfaces affect wave propagation, assuming that the free surfaces exhibit periodic properties.
