Mathematical Engineering in the World

The Mathematical Engineering undergraduate program, which was established at İstanbul Technical University in the 1973–1974 academic year and began admitting students in the same period, holds significant brand value as the first Mathematical Engineering undergraduate program founded both in Türkiye and in the world. In recent years, the fields of applied mathematics and computational sciences included in the Mathematical Engineering program have begun to play a highly important role in engineering, basic sciences, industry, and technological advancements. In fact, in today’s simulation era, mathematical modeling, scientific computing, and computer simulation — which are among the main themes of our program — have become highly effective alternative methods for testing new discoveries and theories in almost every field. In this context, programs with the same or similar names have started to be established in the United States and other developed countries, and their popularity continues to increase day by day.

The following programs can be given as several current examples from around the world.
